The event, running November 10 through 16, includes a wide range of activities, such as tours of Havana, Viñales Valley, Villa de Trinidad, Cienfuegos, and the Varadero beach resort, in addition to holding several keynote speeches.
Mariano Palacin, the outgoing president of FEPET, granted awards at the Packard Hotel on Monday to several entities of the Tourism Ministry (MINTUR), including tour operators Havanatur, Transtur, Marinas Marlin, Palmares, Iberostar, Melia, Gran Caribe, and the Havana International Press Center, for their collaboration in organizing the event.
Meanwhile, Karmen Garrido, the incoming president of FEPE, set out Cuba’s natural and human wealth and expressed her gratitude for the affection received.
In his welcome speech, Tourism Minister Juan Carlos Garcia thanked Palacin and Garrido for their efforts to hold the 15th FEPET Congress in Cuba and expressed how opportune it is for its members to gain experience as journalists.
Garcia underscored that Cuba continues to be interested in promoting Spanish tourism, which has suffered a setback in recent years, partly as a result of the extraterritorial measures adopted by the United States, which have affected the free choice of its citizens to travel to the island nation.
Tourism in Cuba does not develop on equal terms as in other countries but it does not stop, he said.
