Mexican government supports investigations after attack in Querétaro

Mexico, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Monday that the federal government is in contact with authorities in Querétaro to support the investigations and other matters after a violent incident in that town.

“Since the incident occurred, the Secretary of Security (Omar García Harfuch) has been in communication with the governor (Mauricio Kuri), supporting all investigations, and also the armed forces,” the president said in her regular press conference.

At least four individuals armed with long weapons arrived at a bar in the city of Querétaro, in the central state of the same name, on Saturday, and opened fire at those present, killing 10 people and injuring 13, according to official reports.

Sheinbaum confirmed on Monday the arrest of an individual and noted that the attackers “were after one person.”

The government presented a security strategy last month that focuses on four axes: attention to the structural causes of violence, strengthening and consolidating the National Guard, promoting intelligence and investigation, and coordination between the Security Cabinet and the states.

As a result of this, from October 1 to 28, authorities arrested 824 people for high-impact crimes and seized 834 firearms and more than 33.8 tons of drugs, Secretary of Security Harfuch informed recently.
