Firefighters control big fire in the Lebanese capital

Beirut, Nov 9 (Prensa Latina) Firefighters and Civil Defense teams in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, extinguished today a large fire that caused great material damage in Al-Hamra area.

Local authorities reported that the fire broke out in electrical generators in that locality, spreading out after to a parking lot, where dozens of cars were burnt and several residents were trapped in buildings next to the site.

After a rapid intervention and enormous efforts, the fire was extinguished and those trapped were evacuated and treated by medical teams after suffering from asphyxiation.

In addition, a Bangladeshi man and woman were injured after falling from the roof of a building while trying to escape.

A member of the fire department was also injured and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Lebanese National Information Agency said the fire seriously damaged several surrounding residential buildings, and one of the properties was burnt to the ground.
