African Union supports Luanda Process for peace in DRC

Kinshasa, Nov 9 (Prensa Latina) The special envoy of the African Union (AU) for the prevention of genocide, Adama Djeng, ratified the support of the entity to the Luanda Process for peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Radio Okapi reported today.

Following a meeting with the provincial governor of North Kivu yesterday, Djeng said that implementing the roadmap would help prevent mass crimes and enable people to return to normal life.

He noted the steps taken in this direction, particularly in the launching, last November 5, of the Ad-Hoc Reinforced Verification Mechanism, with the participation of the foreign ministers of the DRC and Rwanda.

‘The two foreign ministers once again committed themselves to put everything in place so that there will be peace, that crimes, which are extremely serious, will cease’, he emphasized. Djeng announced that he would meet with the displaced populations to bring his solidarity, and the message of compassion from the African Union, through its president Muhamed Musa Faki.

According to Radio Okapi, the envoy is also due to meet in Goma with the authorities of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the DRC (Monusco).
