UN Human Rights Office warns of serious Israeli violations in Gaza

United Nations, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) The UN Human Rights Office today denounced the repeated non-compliance with the rules of war in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, in a report that warns of serious Israeli violations.

The report describes as very serious the actions of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) with regard to forced removals, systematic attacks on hospitals, and attacks on journalists.

It also warns of the way hostilities have expanded since the outbreak of October 7.

More than a year of war has caused horrific human suffering, especially as a result of Israel’s choices of means and methods of warfare.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, confirmed that almost 70 per cent of the victims of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip are children and women.

According to Palestinian media reports today, the allegation was included in a report issued by the Commission on the occupier’s violations in the enclave during the period from November 2023 to April 2024.

The ICJ emphasised Israel’s international obligations to prevent acts of genocide and the prohibited practices that accompany them, and to protect and punish their perpetrators, the document added.

According to the report, in many cases, the actions of the occupying power have involved grave violations of international law, human rights and international humanitarian law.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, recalled his repeated warnings about the risk of atrocity crimes and the need for justice.

The violence must stop immediately, the detainees and those arbitrarily detained must be released and we must focus on flooding Gaza with humanitarian aid, he said.
