Russian Deputy Prime Minister arrives in Havana

Moscow, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitri Chernyshenko arrived today in Havana from Caracas, where he will participate in a meeting of the co-chairs of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission for Commercial, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

The Cuban side will reportedly be chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas. Several bilateral documents are expected to be signed as a result of the meeting.

The programme of the Russian Deputy Prime Minister’s stay in Havana also includes a visit to the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God in Kazan, where he will take part in a religious service.

The members of the delegation will also meet with pupils of one of the schools in the Cuban capital, where Russian language is taught, and will present the children with souvenirs.

Chernyshenko’s visit to Cuba takes place in very difficult conditions for the island, which is currently facing an acute energy crisis and is dealing with the aftermath of two hurricanes, Rafael and Oscar.

On the eve of the cyclone, the Cuban authorities decided to close the annual FIHAV-2024 international fair in Havana, which was being attended by a Russian delegation.

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister’s delegation arrived in Havana from Caracas, where Chernyshenko met with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, and presided over the Russian-Venezuelan Intergubermental Commission.
