Havana, 8 Nov (Prensa Latina) - Russia will send 80,000 tonnes of diesel and equipment worth 62 million dollars to Cuba in response to the energy emergency the island is undergoing, the Russian Embassy in Havana announced today.

According to the source, Russian Vice President Dmitry Chernyshenko confirmed at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission that this cooperation is being carried out on the orders of President Vladimir Putin.

Chernyshenko added that his country would also send repair kits for the affected power equipment through the Emergencies Ministry.

The day before, the Cuban government expressed its gratitude for the numerous expressions of support and proposals for assistance from various countries to help repair the damage caused by Hurricane Rafael.

Through his profile on X, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez reported that his country had received messages of solidarity from countries such as Russia, China, Mexico, Colombia and Venezuela, as well as from Caribbean nations.

Cubans living abroad have also offered their help and have begun to donate food and resources for the restoration of the National Electric System (SEN).

Rafael, a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, hit western Cuba on Wednesday, causing serious damage, including the disruption of the SEN.
