Cuba ratifies its commitment to children’s rights at forum in Colombia

Bogotá, Nov 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuba ratified today in Colombia that it will defend the rights of children on the island despite the severe damage caused by the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.

In a speech delivered by Cuban Education Minister Naima Trujillo at the First World Conference to End Violence against Children, the official reaffirmed her nation’s commitment to continue to ensure inclusive, free, equitable and quality education.

As part of her speech, she also stated that Cuba is working to strengthen institutional policies and consolidate practices to ensure safe and healthy learning environments.

She also took the opportunity to announce the drafting of a new Code for Children, Adolescents and Youth, which will soon be introduced to the National Assembly of People’s Power (unicameral parliament) for its consideration.

Trujillo also said her country is committed to increasing awareness campaigns for mothers, fathers and caregivers about the risks of violence against children and adolescents in all its manifestations and places.

The First Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence against Children ends today in Colombia, where more than 1,400 delegates from the 194 States Parties to the World Health Organization are meeting.

The Cuban Minister’s agenda in Bogotá also includes a meeting with the Director General of the Colombian National Learning Service (SENA), Jorge Londoño.
