Syria committed in fight against terrorism

Damascus, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) Syrian Vice Foreign Minister Habib Abbas reaffirmed Damascus' commitment to international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, and its readiness to collaborate to achieve security and stability in the region and the world.

This position was expressed by the Deputy Minister in his address to the High-Level Conference on Strengthening International Cooperation in the Fight Against Terrorism and Creating Flexible Mechanisms for Border Security, which is being held in Kuwait.

Cooperation should be based on respect for the principles of the United Nations Charter and its resolutions related to the fight against terrorism, the most important of which is non-interference in the internal affairs of states, an end to foreign occupation and respect for sovereignty, the FM said.

He explained that, from 2011 to the present day, Syria has been fighting against terrorism that came to it from all parts of the world, and has succeeded, in cooperation with friendly countries, in defeating this problem in the majority of its national territory, and is working to pursue the terrorist remnants.

Abbas denounced the illegal and unjustified presence of U.S. and Turkish forces in northern and eastern Syria, under the pretext of fighting terrorism, and considered that these “two occupying powers invest in terrorism and provide cover for the continuation of extremist activities.”
