ICAP president kicks off a solidarity visit to India

Fernando-Gonzalez-Llort
New Delhi, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) Fernando Gonzalez, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with Peoples (ICAP), started on Monday a visit to India, whose people have always been close to Cuba.

The Caribbean nation’s anti-imperialist stance and its people’s defense of democracy in the face of threats to its sovereignty by the United States motivate and inspire those who are still fighting for their rights in different regions worldwide, Tapan Sen, General Secretary of the Center of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), told Prensa Latina about the visit.

Hence, we explain the several demonstrations of solidarity with Cubans in the South Asian country, where the most recent of which took place last week at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) against the siege that Washington has imposed on the island nation for more than 60 years.

As the international community demonstrated for the 32nd time at UNGA, the working class of India voiced its rejection of this coercive measure that the White House maintains to try to subjugate a people that decided to bet on its independence and democracy.

Concerning the event, the CITU conducted some actions against the US blockade against Cuba in localities in the states of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and New Delhi, because it is significant to stand with Cuba, not only for the island nation but also for all those countries who are still fighting for their legitimate rights, Tapan Sen said.

Our unions reject Washington’s criminal imperialist blockade against Cuba, which has created a kind of serious humanitarian crisis in that country, he said.
