Cuban coach Raul Trujillo awarded honorary degree

Matanzas, Cuba, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) Outstanding Cuban Greco-Roman wrestling coach Raul Trujillo today was awarded as Doctor Honoris Causa in Physical Culture Sciences, given by the University of Matanzas in recognition of his sports career.

The José White concert hall in the western province of Cuba was the venue for the ceremony, during which that university presented him with its highest decoration for professionals with a praiseworthy and meritorious performance in society.

Dean of the Physical Culture and Sports Sciences School, Mercedes Estupiñán, Trujillo’s Curriculum Vitae falls short of faithfully depicting his career as an excellent citizen, and a man very much attached to his Matanzas of birth and to those who assisted him through his professional training.

Five-time Olympic champion Mijain López, one of his most beloved adopted sons and a legend in world sports, said that more than a coach, Trujillo has been a father and an example for everyone in Cuban and world wrestling.

He stands out as a man of such values as camaraderie, simplicity and humility, as well as a high level of performance in technical terms related to his sporting discipline, said López.

Trujillo, visibly moved, recalled his years as a trainee at the University of Matanzas, and voiced all the pride he feels for the award.

Speaking about future projects, he indicated that Cuban wrestling will always be a part of his days and of his family, as he has devoted more than fifty years of his life to wrestling.
