Furious Valencians in Spain boo kings and authorities

Madrid, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) Hundreds of people booed and insulted on Sunday their majesties Felipe VI and Letizia, and the Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, and Governor of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazon.

The riot was held in Paiporta, Valencia, one of the municipalities hardest hit by the Isolated High Level Depression DANA, where several neighbors further threw mud at the authorities.

The visit of high-level officials was disrupted by angry locals of Paiporta, a community devastated by the flash floods triggered by DANA on Tuesday, although the attempt of the authorities to hold talks with the citizens. Locals kept up shouting, “Murderers, murderers!” as well as demanding their resignation, particularly against Sanchez, Mazon and the attitude of the majesties, who were splashed with mud despite strong security measures.

Paiporta municipality is considered to be ground zero of the catastrophe, with around fifty deaths, numerous missing and enormous destruction.

In contrast, Spanish chef Jose Andres was welcomed on Sunday at the improvised kitchen in Chiva, Valencia, of the NGO World Central Kitchen, which he heads, at the site where they have already distributed over 26,000 rations of meals.

“We cook with firewood because there is no gas,” Jose Andres said, who is an international figure for his permanent contribution with the free distribution of food in areas of conflict, pandemics and natural disasters.

With a preliminary death toll of 213 people and hundreds of missing, Sanchez advanced on Friday in an institutional statement, to allocate 5,000 others military to Valencia province, and as many civil guards and police possible.

The State Meteorological Agency issued warnings in different parts of Spain as a consequence of DANA weather event, for which the DGT advised to avoid circulating vehicles in the Levante, Catalonia, the Strait of Gibraltar and the eastern area of Granada province.

DANA’s destruction left many Valencian towns without electricity and water due to flash floods and mudslides, causing vehicles to be piled up everywhere, and devastating railways, bridges, roads and highways.

Fortunately, the wave of solidarity is quite remarkable, with thousands of people moving to the areas most affected by the flash floods in the Valencian Community.In addition to volunteers, several football clubs stand out for their solidarity, such as Real Madrid with a donation of one million euros; Valencia FC itself, Osasuna, UD Las Palmas, Levante, Villarreal, among others. Cleaning streets and avenues, supplying basic necessities and helping the Military Emergency Unit, Civil Guard, Police and mobilized members of the Army, are the tasks that thousands of volunteers assign themselves.
