Final count confirms Uruguay’s Broad Front leads elections

Montevideo, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) The definitive scrutiny of Uruguayan October 27th elections confirmed on Sunday that the opposition Broad Front was the most voted political force.

Latest official data from the Electoral Court revealed that the presidential candidate from the Broad Front Yamandu Orsi and his running mate Carolina Cosse obtained 1,071,826 ballots.

Meanwhile, within the Government coalition, representing the National Party, Alvaro Delgado and Valeria Ripoll received 655, 426 votes, ahead of the 392,592 ballots of the Colorado Party with Andres Ojeda and Robert Silva.

Behind them is Open Cabildo led by Guido Manini Rios, with 60,549 votes; and the Independent Party represented by Pablo Mieres, with 41,168 ones.

The surprise of the election day was Gustavo Salle belonging to Sovereign Identity Party, which reached 65,796 votes and two seats in the Chamber of Deputies.

The Constitutional Environmentalist Party obtained 11,865 votes, followed by People’s Assembly Party with 10,102 ballots, Ecologist Radical Intransigent Party with 9,281, Party for the Necessary Changes having 3,183 and Republican Advance Party with 1,909 votes.

The number of blank votes was 32,356 while annulled ballots were higher amounting to 52,750, which accounted for more support than all the parties that did not enter Parliament.

On November 24, there will be a second round to decide the presidency of the Republic.
