Upon welcoming the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and head of the Council of State, Lam repeated Vietnam’s firm position against the blockade that the United States has maintained against the Caribbean island, and noted that he was satisfied with the recent vote on the issue at the United Nations General Assembly.
We reiterate our fraternal solidarity and commitment to Cuba and we share the difficult circumstances that the country is going through, caused by the recent natural disasters and the energy situation.
The top Vietnamese party leader said that he remembered with pleasure the treatment he received during his recent state visit to Cuba and referred to the agreements reached at the time, for whose fulfillment the ministries and the Government, as well as Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh himself, are working.
Prior to his meeting with the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Lazo and the delegation accompanying him met with the new Vietnamese president, Luong Cuong, who described the visitor as “a very close friend of the Vietnamese people.”
The head of State ratified his gratitude for the solidarity and support provided during the struggle for independence and reunification of the Vietnam, and assured that his people always remember a statement by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who said, “For Vietnam we are willing to give even our own blood.”
Cuong added that the Vietnamese leadership is always attentive to the situation in Cuba and shares its difficulties, and expressed confidence that under the wise leadership of the PCC, the Cuban people will overcome difficult times and achieve better results in the process of building and defending the homeland.
Lazo, in turn, stressed that Vietnam occupies a special place in the popular imagination of Cubans and is a symbol of creativity, resistance and, above all, an inspiration to continue to fight.
Shortly after his arrival here on Saturday morning, Lazo held a working meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart, Tran Thanh Man, who ratified the country’s will to further deepen the special, exemplary and faithful relationship of solidarity that exists between Vietnam and Cuba.
Sixty-four years after the establishment of diplomatic relations, the close ties cultivated by President Ho Chi Minh and Fidel Castro have continuously developed into an exceptional bond with high political trust, he stressed.
The head of the Vietnamese legislature pointed out that the regular exchange of visits, overcoming all geographical distances, is of great importance to continue to consolidate and develop this special relationship, which is becoming stronger day by day.
