In the first case, there is evidence that the whale got tangled up in huge nets of the Australis Mar farming center in the Kawesqar National Reserve, in the Magallanes region.
Shortly afterward, the lifeless body of another whale was found near the facilities of the Canadian company Cooke Aquaculture, inside Laguna San Rafael National Park, in the Aysen region.
Although the latter site has been inactive since 2022, following a decision by an environmental court, due to its potential impact on biodiversity, containers of dangerous and corrosive chemical elements are still there.
The Chilean Environment Ministry has filed a complaint to the National Public Prosecutor’s Office so that all the necessary steps be taken to determine whether unlawful actions have been committed.
