Although the host country was determined to move the talks forward after more than ten days of negotiations, it was still difficult to reach a consensus on the talks’ of traditionally most complex issues.
The event’s president and Colombia’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Susana Muhamad, stated that the parties had reached a point in which they had to make concessions.
The Minister commended that the first major negotiating objective achieved was the Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities Work Plan, which provides a clear implementation pathway for Indigenous communities within the Kunming Montreal Framework adopted at the previous COP.
However, Muhamad added that the subsidiary body on this issue, which would be a claim of indigenous peoples and local communities, had yet to be approved.
