Consulted by the Lanka Leader newspaper about Wednesday’s vote at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) against the US blockade, the representative of the solidarity group affirmed that Washington is ignoring the international demand.
“The international community adopted for the 32nd time the resolution to lift the economic measures imposed on Cuba, but not once has the United States complied with the world´s opinion,” he pointed out.
Jayatissa also stressed that Cuba is not a rich country but it is immense because of its moral character and its people’s unity, which gives it the strength to face adversity, and this is a defeat for the United States.
The coordinating secretary of the Sri Lankan group said his organization is carrying out actions, along with the countries worldwide, to support the Caribbean nation’s independence.
Jayatissa also urged US citizens to demand that their candidates in the upcoming elections commit to ending the economic war against Cuba.
