Peruvian organizations urge UN to take action against the US blockade

Lima, Oct 31 (Prensa Latina) The Internationalist Coordinator of Solidarity (CIS) of Peru today called on the United Nations (UN) to make effective the global outcry against the blockade on Cuba, as ratified yesterday at the General Asembly.

“Now it is a matter of moving from declarations to reality, the UN has to be able to impose its decisions, despite the whims of the powerful,” the group said in a statement that also bears the signatures of prominent Peruvian personalities and organizations.

In a public message condemning the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, it added that people must ensure that the will of the vast majority of the states of the world is fulfilled.

“Cuba cannot continue to be attacked and suffocated by the Empire, just as no other country can or should be in our time,” they added, noting that the Homeland of José Martí and Fidel Castro has the virtually unanimous support of the world, demonstrated by its new victory at the UN against the blockade.

For more than three decades, the release continued, “the small Caribbean Island has defeated the oppressors of our time and confirmed the will to forge new relations among sovereign States, eliminating force, arrogance and abuse.”

The CIES statement bears the signatures of the former Minister of Women Aída García Naranjo, journalist and analyst Gustavo Espinoza, and social activists Héctor Béjar, Ricardo Gadea and Tany Valer. Also included are singer-songwriter Marcela Pérez Silva, poets Hildebrando Pérez Grande and Vicente Otta, from the Network of Intellectuals and Artists in Defense of Humanity, singer-songwriter Marcela Pérez-Silva and visual artist Fanny Palacios.

The message was supported by dozens of leaders of different social organizations and international activists from different Peruvian regions.
