Cuban President deplores eight deaths caused by hurricane Oscar

Havana, 31 October (Prensa Latina) - Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today deplored the loss of eight lives in the country's far east due to hurricane Oscar that hit the province of Guantánamo.

The Head of State assured in his X account that the relentless search for the two people reported missing continues.

“We reiterate all our solidarity and support to the families, friends and neighbors,” he wrote on the social network.

On Wednesday, the president visited the communities affected by the hurricane, where basic services are gradually being restored.

During his meeting with the people of the municipality of Imías Díaz-Canel expressed his amazement at the progress made in the recovery of the area, one of the hardest hit by Oscar.

This shows, he told them, “that we can overcome serious and extreme situations such as these, but when unity prevails and we participate together to strengthen it, we can overcome any adversity”.

The President highlighted the joint efforts of government institutions and the people to quickly repair the damage, in addition to the country’s shipment of food, medicine and other supplies to the damaged populations.

Oscar caused significant damage to agriculture, roads and electricity in the eastern Cuban province.
