Angolan Parliament passes bill on electric vehicles

Luanda, Oct 31 (Prensa Latina) The Angolan Parliament voted on Thursday a bill to boost the country’s legal use of electric vehicles (EV) and related facilities, as part of the government’s commitment with sustainability and reduction of carbon emissions.

With 113 votes in favor, none against, and no abstentions, the Law of Legislative Authorization on the Judicial Regime Defining Electromobility will herald Angola’s transition from traditional fuel vehicles to new forms of transport.

Transport Minister Ricardo de Abreu, who forwarded the bill to Parliament, highlighted the business opportunities that are opening in the sector, as the law will help establish an assembly industry of different electric vehicles, the manufacturing of batteries and maintenance services, among others.

The Parliament also ratified the Agreement for the Establishment of the African Finance Corporation (AFC), backed by 113 deputies attending the first plenary session of the third Legislature.

Lawmakers pointed out that Angola’s membership into AFC responds to the need to invest in infrastructure in the transport, logistics, energy, mining, and oil sectors.
