The process includes the revision of the observed votes, the minutes and the analysis and resolution of the appeals presented on the occasion of the primary count.
The minister of the Supreme Court, José Garchitorena, explained that these appeals, which total 34,500, “are resolved by the Electoral Board of the department or eventually by the Electoral Court if the appeal is also presented in subsidy and the Board does not accept it.” A recount of the electoral sheets will also be made “only in the case of inconsistency in the minutes, if not they are considered valid,” he commented.
According to the primary count presented by the Electoral Court, in last Sunday’s elections, the opposition Frente Amplio obtained the highest number of votes with 43.94% of the ballots. In second place, the National Party (PN) received 26.8% of the votes, followed by the Colorado Party, with 16 percent. Sovereign Identity obtained 2.7% of the votes, surpassing Cabildo Abierto (2.5%) and the Independent Party (1.7%). Both groups make up the government coalition.
The results force a second round to be held on November 24th between the candidate for the Frente Amplio, Yamandú Orsi, and the candidate for the PN, jrr/llp/oda/ool
