Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, the representative of New Delhi pointed out that such actions affect women and children to a greater extent and also hinder the full enjoyment of human rights, including development, food, medical care and social services, among other aspects.
She ratified her country’s rejection of unilateral measures and recalled that in the 2030 agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and the recently approved Pact of the Future, States are urged to avoid the application of such measures that do not respect the United Nations Charter, international law or the right to economic progress, mainly of developing nations.
The diplomat pointed out that the blockade has a devastating effect on Cuban society, causing a shortage of basic needs and affecting Cuba’s ability to achieve the SDGs.
She ratified her country’s support for the draft resolution with which Havana is demanding the end of the US blockade, and called for the support of the international community to achieve this objective. On the other hand, the representative of New Delhi stressed that the permanence of this type of measures, running counter to the general opinion expressed by the General Assembly, undermines multilateralism and the credibility of the United Nations.
