Gathered in the Cuban Embassy in this capital, the representatives of solidarity groups followed the speeches in the United Nations Assembly live and applauded Washington’s defeat.
Cuban Ambassador Nazario Fernández explained that since last year, two days have been dedicated to the analysis of the Resolution, “because there are many countries that want to expose to the world their position in relation to Cuba.”
He said that he had to live this extraordinary experience in the international organization for five years, when the world stands up to the unilateral policy of the United States.
The US Government, if it has a minimum of decency and respect for the international community, might lift the blockade.
He referred to the signing of the measure, and even an internal memorandum from the State Department by the Undersecretary for the Western Hemisphere, Lester D. Mallory, who suggested as the only way to undermine internal support for the Revolution the discontent based on the difficulties of the Cuban people.
The ambassador stressed that the measure worsened to unsuspected levels starting in 2019, with the actions promoted by President Donald Trump (2017-2021), including Cuba’s inclusion in the State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list.
He added that this is accompanied by a brutal media campaign to blame Cuba precisely for the material shortages that affect the people.
However, the diplomat pointed out, within the United States there are forces that also confront the blockade.
Following the statements by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez before the plenary and the broad support with 187 votes in favor, two against and one abstention for this thirty-second resolution, the friends shared their joy.
