Exhibition of Cuban film posters opens in Chile

Santiago, Chile, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) The Santiago Fundador Lions Club in Chile is hosting an exhibition on Wednesday of Cuban film posters, which are declared a Documentary Heritage of Humanity by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

At the exhibition’s opening ceremony, Cuban Ambassador to Chile, Mercedes Vicente, recalled that this artistic expression emerged after the triumph of the Revolution in 1959 when the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC) was founded.

“Historias de la Revolucion” (Stories of the Revolution), directed by Tomas Gutierrez Alea, was the first film whose screening was accompanied by a poster designed by Eduardo Muñoz Bachs.

“Cuban cinema has been a chronicler of reality, it gathers all the challenges, achievements, aspirations, sadness, and joys of society,” the diplomat said.

The ambassador stated that the same cinematography is depicted more synthetically in the posters we currently see here.

The poster exhibition was opened as part of the activities for Cuban Culture Day, celebrated every year on October 20. It offers a selection of 15 of more than 3,000 ICAIC posters.

Among them are the posters of films “Amada,” “Vampiros en la Habana” (Vampires In Havana), “Cuba Baila” (Cuba Dances), “Las Aventuras de Juan Quin Quin” (The Adventures Of Juan Quin Quin), “Elpidio Valdez,” and “El Bohio” (The Hut).
