Diaz-Canel thanks for pronouncements at the UN against the blockade

Havana, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel thanked the more than 30 speakers who raised their voices at the United Nations to denounce the policy of economic stifling of the United States against the Caribbean nation.

The head of State also acknowledged the pronouncements rejecting the inclusion of the island in the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

“Today’s victory will be decisive,” Díaz-Canel said in his account on X, referring to the vote that will be held this Wednesday by the UN General Assembly on the proposed resolution presented by Cuba against the blockade imposed by the United States.

After more than three decades, the forum of 193 countries has taken a firm and almost unanimous stand against this package of measures, whose total losses are estimated at $499 billion over the more than six decades of implementation.

The most recent consideration of the draft resolution, held in November 2023, resulted in 187 votes in favour, 2 against (United States and Israel) and 1 abstention (Ukraine).

According to Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez, US policy acts “like an act of war in peacetime.”

The decision to strengthen the blockade, in an unprecedented way during Covid-19 and to take advantage of the resulting global economic crisis to promote the destabilization of the country, shows the perverse essence of this policy, the Foreign Minister denounced.
