Cuba is fighting in two trenches today, Diaz-Canel says

Havana, Oct 30 (Prensa Latina) President Miguel Díaz-Canel said today that Cuba is fighting in two trenches: one for the recovery of Guantánamo after hurricane Oscar and the other at the UN against the blockade.

“One is open here, on the battered southern and northern coasts of Guantánamo, where we are fighting to reverse the damage caused by Oscar. The other is at the UN, where the blockade, which for six decades has made reconstruction and life itself more difficult, will be condemned,” the president wrote on his X account.

On Wednesday, the Head of State visited the municipality of Imías in Guantanamo to see how the area was being rehabilitated.

During his dialogue with the population, Diaz-Canel was interested in the progress of work on roads, electricity and the supply of resources of all kinds.

He also visited the Ciro Fría Cabrera Polyclinic, which serves a local population of more than 2,100 inhabitants.

According to reports from the Presidency of the Republic in X, doctors, nurses and all the staff of the facility are restoring life to this place where water and mud have reached a height of more than a metre.

Cuba denounced today at the United Nations General Assembly the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade on all sectors of the island.

For the 33rd time in a row, the General Assembly has condemned the US hostile blockade with 187 votes against 2 and 1 abstention.

Speaking at the forum, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez denounced the effects of this series of suffocating measures, which are contrary to the UN Charter and the principles of international law.

What is unique and extraordinary with regard to Cuba is the deliberate determination of the United States to suffocate the national economy, to sabotage it and to place significant obstacles in the way of our growth and development,’ he said.

The report presented by the island estimates losses of $ 5,56.8 million as a result of the siege between March 2023 and 29 February 2024, which represents an increase of DOL 189.8 million.
