She added that the board plans to close at least three VW plants, while its remaining manufacturing sites will reduce their capacity, according to management plans that have been communicated to the works council.

Redundancies are expected and Carvahlo warned that tens of thousands of jobs could be closed.

Cavallo stated that all VW plants are affected by these plans. None of them are safe.

Volkswagen employs more than 120,000 people in Germany, about half of those in Wolfsburg, and it has 10 factories.
