UN General Assembly to debate once more US blockade on Cuba

United Nations, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) The UN General Assembly will open its debates devoted to analyze the impact of the United States blockade on Cuba, which has been exacerbated by the inclusion of Cuba in the list of states sponsors of terrorism.

On Wednesday 30th, the General Assembly will vote on the proposed resolution against the blockade for the thirty-second time.

Last September, during the celebrations of the UN General Debate, dozens of representatives ratified their position of rejection of the blockade, whose consequences exceed 1.499 billion dollars after more than six decades.

In November 2023, the resolution received 187 votes in favor, two votes against (United States and Israel) and the abstention of one member state (Ukraine).

The legislation recognized the blockade as the central element of the United States’ policy toward Cuba for more than six decades, with unceasing effects on 80 percent of the Cuban population, who knows their country only under the blockade.

Since May of this year, more than 800 international statements have demanded the immediate exclusion of Cuba from the list created by the U.S. State Department that classifies states that are allegedly sponsors of terrorism.
