The UN released in a statement that Guterres will emphasize in his speech that nature is life and, nevertheless, humans are waging a battle against it.
He is also expected to underscore that biodiversity is humanity’s ally and the world must move from plundering to preserving.
He will also call for the Biodiversity Framework promises adopted at the COP15 Conference held in Montreal, Canada, two years ago to be fulfilled, and for a move from words to action.
During his participation in the event, the UN chief will also meet and discuss with indigenous peoples and local communities, as well as other civil society representatives, including youth and women’s groups.
Guterres will also meet with Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro.
