“There is close coordination between the federal government and its institutions,” the president said last Friday, mentioning the ministers of national defense, Navy, security and protection of citizens, and the National Guard.

The president noted that the protection of the population is one of the fundamental elements.

The National Security Strategy, presented on October 8th, is based on four pillars: paying attention to the causes of violence; consolidating the National Guard within the Ministry of Defense; strengthening intelligence and investigations; and coordinating among the institutions of the Ministry of Defense, the Cabinet of Security and, if necessary, state bodies.

“We will continue to implement the strategy that began in the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of prioritizing the most vulnerable families, reducing poverty, eliminating inequality and creating opportunities for young people,” said Security Minister García Harfuch. “This will also allow us to protect them from crime and recruitment by criminal groups,” he stressed.

Sheinbaum assured during her usual press conference that the strategy will produce results, although they will not be immediate. “During the time of President López Obrador, there was already a lot of talk and the trend was a decrease in the number of homicides, which is very important,” she said, stressing that they will gradually pacify the country in areas where there are still problems of security and violence.
