Vietnam endures heavy rains and floods caused by TS Trami

Hanoi, Oct 28 (Prensa Latina) Heavy rains and flash floods due to the rapidly rising water levels in some rivers hit Vietnam on Monday due to Typhoon Trami, which has become a tropical storm.

The Quang Binh-Quang Ngai area in central Vietnam is expected to receive heavy rainfall of 200 to 400 millimeters by late October, reaching more than 600 millimeters in some places, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warned on Monday.

The Meteorological Center reported that Trami is moving eastward to return to the East Sea, where it will weaken into a tropical depression. It will then become a depression before gradually dissipating.

The government’s online newspaper stated that over 30 districts and urban areas with 365 communes are at risk of flooding from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai provinces.

The publication warned that the risk of flash floods and landslides is high to very high on steep hillsides and talus in the area from South Nghe An to Binh Dinh, Kon Tum, and Gia Lai, especially from Quang Binh to Quang Nam.
