Kingstown, Oct 27 (Prensa Latina) Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is celebrating 45 years of independence from the United Kingdom. The date comes amid challenges such as climate change and the devastation caused by Hurricane Beryl.

The Caribbean nation organized an extensive commemorative programme that includes activities within the Territory and at international sites such as Niagara Falls and the iconic Empire State Building in New York, which will be illuminated with the colors of the San Vincentian flag in honor of the anniversary.

In the evening, a parade will tour the center of this capital with blocks of soldiers and artists that will show both the identity elements of culture and heritage, as well as aspects of contemporary art.

According to the authorities, the celebrations are aimed at focusing on the country’s socio-political and economic history, from becoming a parliamentary monarchy in 1979 to the present day.

They also aim to visualize the challenges facing Saint Vincent and the Grenadines due to the devastating impact on development of issues such as climate change, declining external financial assistance and global instability stemming from geopolitical tensions.

Countries such as Nicaragua have sent congratulatory messages to the Government in recent hours and have confirmed their willingness to take further steps to raise the level of bilateral relations.
