The 4th Cuban Book and Culture Fair open in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Oct. 26 (Prensa Latina) The 4th Cuban Book and Culture Fair begins today in the city of La Plata, in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires, with an extensive program of activities that will highlight the ties between the two countries.

The event will begin at 14:00 local time at the Islas Malvinas Cultural and Memorial Center and will be dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of writer Alejo Carpentier, to art teachers and to the dissemination of Cuban traditions in this South American nation.

The event is organized by the Cuban Embassy in Argentina, the Acercándonos cultural group, local authorities, the Union of Cuban Residents, the Solidarity Movement and other organizations.

As part of the event, there will be simultaneous chess games, book presentations, lectures, tributes, concerts, film screenings and a Cuban publishing fair.

There will also be a photo exhibition and a lecture on “New Challenges of Art and Education in the Territory: Contexts, Subjectivities and Interventions,” to be given by modern and Afro-Cuban dance teacher Marta Bercy.

Ambassador Pedro Pablo Prada will present his compilation “La guerra de los dos siglos” (The war of the two centuries), which analyzes the causes and consequences of the Monroe Doctrine 200 years after it was proclaimed.

As the diplomat states in the prologue: “This book offers the Argentine readers a glimpse of how we Cubans experienced the application and effects of this (US) policy, not through others, but in the flesh”.

This fair is part of a program of activities carried out on the island and in its missions abroad to celebrate its culture.

As part of the program, Cuba will also participate in La XVIII Movida Teatral y Musical de las Dos Orillas, which will be held in the city of Buenos Aires from November 6 to 9.
