India and Germany to hold intergovernmental consultations

New Delhi, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) India and Germany will review bilateral cooperation at the government level and identify areas of engagement following the visit of Foreign Minister Olaf Scholz at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Modi and Scholz will co-chair the seventh intergovernmental consultations, a biannual mechanism established in 2011 between the two countries, the Foreign Ministry reported. The meeting, which will be attended by high-level ministers, is expected to have a strong technological focus with key elements such as sustainability and ecological transition, migration and mobility, and technology and innovation.

Official sources said that both parties will also exchange views on greater collaboration in new and emerging technologies, based on the India-Germany Vision Document, published in 2023 by the German Chancellor and the Indian Prime Minister. In addition, emphasis will also be placed on enhancing cooperation in defense and security matters.

Prior to the consultations, the two dignitaries will discuss boosting economy, security and defense cooperation, a partnership for green and sustainable development, and collaboration in the area of emerging and strategic technologies. The talks will also focus on important regional and global issues.

Modi and Scholz will also address the 18th Asia-Pacific German Business Conference (APK 2024), with the participation of 650 business leaders, executives and political representatives from Germany, India and other nations.

India hopes that the event will give a new impetus to trade and investment ties between the two countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India noted that this year, India and Germany are also celebrating 50 years of cooperation in science and technology and in this framework both sides have undertaken projects in space research, artificial intelligence, sustainability, earth and environmental sciences and advanced materials. In addition, Germany is one of India’s most important partners among the European Union nations.
