Election campaign for Parliament winds up in Bulgaria

Sofia, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) The campaign ahead of the October 27 parliamentary elections in Bulgaria ended on Friday, leaving center-right GERB party of former conservative Prime Minister Boyko Borisov as a favorite.

Bulgarians will cast ballots on Sunday, in the seventh general elections since 2021, to be held amid widespread political chaos, fed by stagnation and instability that only benefis the far right, in the eyes of observers.

Borisov and his party Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) have gleaned around 26 percent of the voting intention, despite his removal from power three years ago, after a decade as prime minister, and a wave of anti-corruption protests.

Since then, no government has lasted more than nine months in the country deemed as the European Union’s poorest.

Against a backdrop of deep apathy gripping 6,5 million Bulgarians, surveys are predicting a low voter turnout.
