The first stage on the president’s agenda was the Jesús Sablón Moreno Sugar Agroindustrial Company (popularly known as Central Jesús Rabí), which is preparing to begin the sugar campaign, in which it is proposed to produce between 20 and 22 thousand tons, higher than an initial plan of 16 thousand.
The director of the entity, Jorge Luis Breijo, explained to the head of state the progress of the repair process that is being undertaken there.
In addition to sugar production, the mill also pays special attention to the planting of sugar cane, an area in which half of what was planned for the year has already been planted.
The company plans to produce molasses and other derivatives, once the harvest is over, and generate electricity for that purpose, as well as intensify agricultural production and serve the social sector of the community. Díaz-Canel urged the mill workers “to carry out a dignified campaign” and expressed his conviction that this will be a better year for the entity.
During his visit to the municipality, the head of State spoke with the rice producer, Leonel Linares, whom he described as an example “of what we must do and something that we can multiply.”
The president praised the quality of the plantations about to enter harvest and praised the work system of Linares that includes the planting of other crops such as tomatoes and beans.
“No one can block us from this, it is the way to reduce imports and help the country,” he added.
The Matanzas farmer has 34 hectares planted, 20 of them with cereal, with a yield of over four tons per hectare, with the use of bioproducts, as reported by the Presidency of the Republic in X.
The province of Matanzas has four poles of rice crops and to cover its consumption it needs 40 thousand tons, but now it only harvests about 10 thousand.
The president also toured district three of the municipal capital of Calimete, which is undergoing a transformation process.
The neighbors of the neighborhood recovered an area for children to play, which was previously a garbage dump; they gave life to an organoponic lost in the weeds, in which they now grow beans, cucumbers and other vegetables.
