Portal, who visited two referral hospitals in Luanda on Friday, was pleasantly impressed by the conditions of these institutions, provided with first-world technology provided free of charge to Angolans, coupled with their good organization, laudable performance by work teams and high scientific level.

In Portal’s words, these conditions demonstrate a full intention from the country’s leadership and the Ministry of Health to continue advocating life, and assured his Angolan counterpart, Sílvia Lutucuta, the Cuban commitment to maintain cooperation and study ways to expand it.

He also reiterated Cuba’s capacity to train specialists in different branches, 64 of which are being currently taught in the island’s Medicine Colleges, together with Master’s and Doctorate studies.

Likewise, potential exchanges may arise from Cuba’s biotechnological and pharmaceutical industries, if both countries avail themselves of the bilateral agreement signed a year ago by their drug regulatory agencies, he said.

Portal toured the Cardeal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento Hospital Complex for Cardiopulmonary Diseases and the Dra. Victoria Do Espirito Santo Pediatric Hematology Institute.
