Havana, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) The 20th Cuban Civil Society Forum against the US blockade opened sessions at the Havana-based National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology on Friday.

Under the theme “The effects of the US blockade on the Cuban people’s health”, representatives of different groups demanded an end to the US policy that has been implemented for more than six decades.

Participants in the Forum condemned Cuba’s inclusion in Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list, a classification drawn up by the White House. They considered it illegitimate and a crude denial of the governmental efforts in the island nation to fight this scourge.

Several experts denounced the damage caused by the US coercive measures to health targeted programs in Cuba, which take a heavy toll on the local population’s quality of life.

They said the US siege is an economic war with a wide extraterritorial reach, whose victims are mainly children, pregnant women, senior citizens, and patients diagnosed with cancer and other diseases.

Members of 39 medical associations, the Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU), the Union of Cuban Journalists (UPEC), the Cuban Women’s Federation (FMC), the Cuban Federation of University Students (FEU), and the Federation of Middle School Students (FEEM), among others, are taking part in the forum.
