Bolivian and Colombian Deputy Foreign Ministers reactivate Commission

La Paz, Oct 25 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian and Colombian Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs held the 4th Meeting of the Permanent Binational Commission on Thursday in the capital of Bolivia.

Deputy Foreign Ministers Élmer Catarina, of Bolivia, and Jorge Rojas, of Colombia, presided over the meeting, in which the parties analyzed a broad agenda focused on political, economic, commercial, cultural, cooperation and regional issues.

A note from the Bolivian Foreign Ministry states that among the highlights of the meeting are the evaluation of the bilateral relationship on political matters, the review of bilateral instruments under negotiation and the presentation of a new bilateral agreement. Also, the parties approved the creation of “ad hoc” working groups on indigenous and Afro-descendant peoples, as well as on feminist foreign policy.

In the economic and commercial sphere, the delegations reviewed the state of the commercial relationship and discussed relevant issues such as cooperation in biofuels, “Mining for Peace” and promotion of community tourism.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that in terms of cooperation, the delegations addressed the activities carried out in the context of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Academies of the two countries and the progress in South-South Cooperation regarding previous commitments.

Regarding cultural matters, the delegations exchanged views on the strengthening of diplomacy in this area and Colombian participation in programming linked to the Bicentennial of Bolivia (2025).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia reported that initiatives on academic mobility, exchanges, education and the protection of the intangible heritage of indigenous communities were analyzed.

In consular and migration matters, the challenges regarding documentary requirements for Bolivians residing in Colombia and the results of the High-Level Meeting on Human Mobility and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean were addressed. The conclusions of the South American Conferences on Migration held in 2023 and 2024 were also analyzed, as well as issues concerning the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, the protection of the Amazon through the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization and the role of the Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.
