Uruguay’s electoral body starts distribution of ballots boxes

Montevideo, Oct 24 (Prensa Latina) The Electoral Court of Uruguay (CE) will begin today the distribution of ballot boxes and electoral materials ahead of the Sunday, October 27 polls, in which citizens will elect the President of the Republic and the Parliament.

The armed forces have been assigned to deliver such items to the more than 7,000 rural and urban circuits in the country.

Simultaneously, the CE is scrutinizing and training members of the Vote Receiving Commissions (CRVs), as polling stations put the finishing touches to their venues.

Court Minister José Garchitorena said the CE will announce the outcome of the preliminary counting of ballots on Sunday evening.

They will also publicize the results of the constitutional plebiscites on night-time police raids and on the reform of the Social Security, to be voted the same day.

Once the constituency’s counting ends, the information will be communicated to the Computing Center of the Electoral Court and immediately uploaded to the agency’s website, he said.

Garchitorena emphasized there is no limit of time to complete the counting.

He stressed that the law does not require swiftness from the Electoral Court or the CRVs, but instead demand security and guarantees in fulfilling all processes.
