A report published Thursday by the Superior Institute of Health (ISS), notes that the spread of the disease in Italy is currently under control and so far this year there have been no deaths associated with the disease.

The ISS reported that the number of infections in the largest outbreak in the country, located in the community of Fano, in the central region of Marche, where autochthonous infections amounted to 133, remained unchanged during the last stage.

In total, this region has 139 local cases so far, while 36 have been detected in Emilia Romagna, 12 in Lombardy, nine in Abruzzo and two each in Tuscany and Veneto.

The average age of those infected with this virus in Italy is 45 years and 51.0 percent of them are men, according to the ISS report.

“When autochthonous cases were identified, mosquito vector control measures were activated and actions were taken to ensure the safety of transfusions and transplants in the areas concerned, in accordance with the National Arbovirus Plan,” the source adds.
