The Eastern Naval Command, along with its officers from Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal, has activated a comprehensive disaster response mechanism, the Defense Ministry informed.
As part of this preparation, the troops sent a consignment of essential clothing, drinking water, food, medicines, and emergency relief materials to key locations in the area that are likely to be affected by the heavy rains and winds associated with the meteor.
The Defense Ministry assured that the Navy is closely monitoring the situation and remains on high alert and ready to extend its support to the civil authorities and the people affected by Cyclone Dana.
Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Kanaka Bardhan Singh Deo on Wednesday told reporters on the instructions to ensure an adequate response by the territorial authorities to the imminent threat posed by the storm.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Wednesday that Dana was moving northwestward at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour and forecasted that it would intensify into a severe cyclonic storm this Thursday.
