India values close collaboration within BRICS

New Delhi, Oct 22 (Prensa Latina) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India values close cooperation within BRICS, which he described as an important platform for dialogue and debate on issues related to global development agendas.

Before leaving for Russia to participate in the Summit of the bloc, Modi considered BRICS to be key for the analysis of issues such as reformed multilateralism, climate change, economic cooperation, building resilient supply chains, promoting culture and connecting nations, among others.

The minister added that the expansion of the bloc, with the incorporation of new members last year, contributed to its inclusiveness and its plans for global goods.

The Indian Prime Minister said that, based on his experience at the Annual Summit in Moscow last July, his visit to Kazan, which is the venue for the current meeting, will further strengthen the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between India and Russia. He also confirmed that he will hold meetings with BRICS peers and other invited nations.

Modi is one of the founding members of the group, and will conduct a program in Russia until tomorrow, Wednesday.

India assumed the pro tempore presidency of BRICS in 2021, which coincided with the fifteenth anniversary of the organization, and maintained the focus on intra-BRICS cooperation for continuity, consolidation and consensus. On that occasion, New Delhi defended, as priorities, the need for a reform of the multilateral system, cooperation against terrorism, the establishment of digital and technological tools to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, and the promotion of exchanges between peoples.
