Through a message on the social network X, the ministry said it is currently strengthening the public sector “with the conviction that we are achieving concrete goals for children, adolescents and youth.” Education minister Anabella Giracca, announced in early September that they would double the per capita allowance for this purpose as a result of Government’s efforts, in what comes as the first increase in the allocation per student in 15 years.
“Early in our administration, the contribution was 50 quetzales (6.5 dollars) per student for pre-primary and primary education levels in urban areas,” said the official.
She added that the figure reached 55 quetzales (just over seven dollars) in rural areas and 100 (about 13 dollars) for the secondary level.
Now, we have doubled the amount to 100 quetzales for supplies in pre-primary and primary school, and 200 quetzales (around 26 dollars) for the secondary level per school year, she noted.
According to Giracca, this year they will fork out 335.4 million quetzales (43.5 million dollars), which will benefit more than three million students, through the parents organizations network.
