The diplomatic release praised words, actions and support for Cuba, which it deemed as a moving reminder of the strength that resides in unity and understanding among peoples.
Our country has entered an energy emergency caused by the permanent economic war from the United States. In addition, the country was hit by tropical storm Oscar, which damaged thousands of homes in the eastern region, the communiqué said.
According to the release, power has been restored to more than 70 percent of customers, while the greatest damage are reported in the areas hit by the storm, where the relevant staff are working round the clock to fix the power breakdowns.
“Each encouraging message, each sample of support inspires us to continue forward with greater determination, full of confidence in the future. It has been reaffirmed that Cuba is not alone. We thank all the people who, in one way or another, have expressed their solidarity,” the text stressed.
In recent days, Bogotá has witnessed several demonstrations of support for the government and people of Cuba.
Noticeable demonstrations came from the Friendship Group between the Congress of the Republic of Colombia and the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba (unicameral Parliament), the one by the Association of Cuban Residents in Colombia and that of the Fidel Castro Chair of Solidarity.
