During the last 24 hours, several showers and rainfalls occurred in the eastern region, becoming heavy and intense in some localities, mainly in Guantanamo and Holguin provinces, the scientific institution informed.
The rainfalls are associated with Tropical Storm Oscar, which continues moving slowly over eastern Cuba, INSMET noted.
The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INRH) combined weather stations and rain gauge networks recorded an average rainfall of more than 100 millimeters in 11 localities, and three of them exceeded 200 millimeters.
In the next few hours, Oscar will gradually incline its path to northwestward, and continue weakening. However, showers and thunderstorms will affect some localities and the mountain range.
Cuba is under the effects of Storm Oscar amid a tense energy situation caused by massive blackouts that followed several failures in the National Electric Grid (SEN).
