Provinces of Cuba return to normal after Oscar passes

Havana, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) The General Staff of the Civil Defense (EMDC) of Cuba decided to return to normality as of 1:00 p.m. local time, to the provinces of Camagüey (east) and Ciego de Ávila (center).

The decision was made taking into account that these territories were not affected as a result of the passage through the eastern end of the island of Hurricane Oscar (now a tropical storm), and in accordance with the information from the Forecast Center of the Institute of Meteorology (Insmet) on the evolution of the meteor. In its information note, the EMDC recognized the work carried out by the governing bodies and the discipline shown by the population in complying with the measures oriented during the preparations.

According to the latest warning from Insmet, Oscar continues to weaken, after making landfall yesterday in Guantanamo as a category one hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale, with a maximum of five, and then downgrading to a tropical storm.

Due to its slow movement through eastern Cuba, heavy rains continue in that area, with the heaviest nuclei of precipitation over the province of Guantanamo, the easternmost in the country, and also in Holguin.
