LG Twins, which won the 2023 championship and was third in the 2024 Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) League season, will be the first opponent of the Cubans led by manager Armando Johnson, before facing on Tuesday NC Dinos, who won the Korean Series championship in 2020.
The agreed duels are part of six games in the context of the Ulsan-KBO 2024 Fall League, running until October 29, to later compete against that country’s national team, which will be in the same group as the Cubans in the tournament, where the 12 best nations globally will attend.
A press release from JIT, an online publication from the Sports Institute of Cuba (INDER), stated that pitcher Yusniel Padron, experienced in the Minor League Baseball (MiLB) circuits in the United States, will be Cubans pitching star.
The Cuban captain announced the team’s members, consisting of Yoelquis Guibert (CF), Roberto Baldoquin (3B), Erisbel Arruebarruena (SS), Alfredo Despaigne (BD), Guillermo Aviles (1B), Lazaro Armenteros (LF), Yadil Mujica (2B), Andrys Perez (R) and Jose Amaury Noroña (RF).
Cuba and South Korea will play in Group B in this third edition of the Premier 12 tournament in Taiwan, where in addition to the China Taipei team, the Dominican Republic, Australia, and champions from Japan will vie for a place in the final round starting on November 13.
