According to the general director of Electricity of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Lázaro Guerra, the western micro system was further consolidated in the last hours with the entry into service of unit number 8 of the Mariel Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE).
Also in service are the floating power plants of Havana, Mariel and Energas Boca de Jaruco, which allow a level of coverage in Havana, Mayabeque and Artemisa.
The central micro system, integrated from the provinces of Matanzas to Camagüey, has more than 200 MW, he informed.
The specialist pointed out that simultaneously, the subsystem by regions is being consolidated throughout the country to guarantee the stability of the rest of the national electric system (SEN) in case of failures.
He also detailed that the CTE Guiteras, the largest unitary block in the country, in Matanzas (center), as well as the generation units of the thermoelectric plants of Nuevitas (Camagüey) and Renté (Santiago de Cuba), in the east, are in the process of starting up.
A unit at Céspedes (Cienfuegos) is expected to start up in the afternoon.
In view of the complex situation, the Unión Eléctrica de Cuba took the strategy of creating several independent systems, by regions, to guarantee the stabilization of the power supply.
