In a statement, Mahamat expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and called on the Maputo security authorities to carry out the necessary investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The President is closely following the consequences of the holding of the general elections in Mozambique on October 9, 2024 and expresses his deep concern about the reported cases of post-election violence and, in particular, the recent killings,” the text underlined.
It recalled that the African Union sent a short-term election observation mission to that country and urged all political actors to maintain a peaceful disposition while awaiting the official declaration of the final results by the Constitutional Council.
In this regard, he called for calm and maximum restraint, as well as for all political groups and their supporters to allow due process in the overall supreme interest of stability in Mozambique.
